What type of soil is best for crop rotation?
Crop
rotation can take place in all ranges of soil. However, if this rotation
includes wheat, the best soil is well-drained and has medium to fine
texture to increase yields. To help with the soil compaction and increase
yields, try the double crop rotation with wheat and soybeans. The process of
double crop rotation begins with planting wheat in the fall, harvesting the
wheat in the summer, and then planting the soybeans in the wheat stubble. This
process is also a practice of conservation. The picture shows no-till planting
of soybeans in corn stubble, it is courtesy of the Purdue University's
Conservation website.
